Which Cozumel Cruise Port Will You Arrive At? A Local Guide to All 3 Piers
When someone tells me they are coming to Cozumel on a cruise, one of my first questions is:
WHAT IS THE SHIP NAME?
Which pier will your ship use?
Many first-time visitors do not realize that Cozumel has three different cruise ship piers—and they are not all within walking distance of downtown.
Knowing where your ship docks helps you choose the right meeting location, estimate taxi time and avoid starting your Cozumel day feeling confused.
After living in Cozumel for 19 years and helping thousands of visitors plan their time here, I can tell you that pier confusion is one of the most common problems cruise passengers encounter.
Here is the simple explanation.
The Three Cozumel Cruise Ship Piers
Cozumel’s three main cruise piers are:
Punta Langosta
International Pier a/k/a SSA
Puerta Maya
All three are located on the island’s western side, but only one is directly downtown.
1. Punta Langosta: The Downtown Pier
Punta Langosta is located at the southern end of downtown San Miguel.
Once you cross the pedestrian bridge over the waterfront road, you are within easy walking distance of:
● Benito Juárez Park
● The downtown waterfront
● Restaurants and bars
● Local shops
● The passenger ferry to Playa del Carmen
● Many downtown tour meeting locations
If your only plan is to walk around town, shop, eat and enjoy the waterfront, Punta Langosta is the easiest pier.
However, you will still need transportation if you want to visit the southern beach clubs, Chankanaab, Punta Sur, the eastern side of the island or most snorkeling-tour marinas.
2. International Pier
International Pier is located south of downtown and is commonly used by Royal Caribbean and other large cruise ships.
There are restaurants, stores and tourist services near the terminal, but International Pier is not downtown.
I generally do not recommend walking from International Pier to the main plaza, especially during the hotter months. The route follows a busy road, offers limited shade and takes valuable time away from your day.
A taxi is normally the easiest option. Depending on traffic, downtown is approximately five to ten minutes away by vehicle.
International Pier is conveniently located for many southern attractions, including:
● Chankanaab
● Money Bar
● Southern beach clubs
● Snorkeling marinas
● The road toward Punta Sur
● Delmar Latino Beach Club
3. Puerta Maya
Puerta Maya is located just south of International Pier and is primarily used by Carnival Corporation cruise lines.
The terminal is almost a destination by itself. It has numerous shops, restaurants, bars, photo opportunities and an organized taxi area.
You can have a pleasant, easy day without traveling far from the ship—but staying inside the terminal is not the same as exploring Cozumel.
Like International Pier, Puerta Maya is not within convenient walking distance of downtown. If you want to visit San Miguel, take a taxi and confirm the fare before getting inside.
Puerta Maya is also well positioned for trips to:
● Southern beach clubs
● Chankanaab
● Snorkeling departure points
● Punta Sur
● The east side of Cozumel

How Do You Know Which Pier Your Ship Will Use?
Start by checking your cruise itinerary or cruise line app. You may see the terminal listed as:
● Punta Langosta
● International Pier a/k/a SSA
● Puerta Maya
The scheduled pier can sometimes change when several cruise ships are visiting on the same day, so check again shortly before arrival.
When booking an independent Cozumel tour, always provide:
● Your cruise line
● Ship name
● Arrival date
● Scheduled arrival and departure times
● Expected pier, if known
A local tour provider should give you exact instructions—not simply tell you to “meet outside the port.”
Ship Time Versus Cozumel Time
Another common mistake is assuming that your ship’s clock and Cozumel’s local time are automatically the same.
Some cruise ships remain on the time of their departure port. Others change to local time. This can vary by cruise line, ship and itinerary.
Before leaving the ship, confirm:
Is my ship currently using Cozumel time or ship time?

Can Independent Tour Operators Meet Inside the Pier?

That does not necessarily mean the meeting point is far away. It simply means you must follow the directions carefully.

Do not tell your tour provider only, “We’re coming on Carnival,” or, “We’re arriving with Royal Caribbean.”
Send the complete ship name. Several ships from the same cruise line can be in Cozumel on the same day—and they may not always use the same pier.
A little preparation makes the beginning of your Cozumel day much easier.
